You can help Wikipedia by expanding it. And just like the Phantom Menace, this movie is quite hard to get through. It is pretty hard to say if Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones is worse.
The worst parts of Clones are not as bad as the worst parts of Menace. The acting, while still bland and wooden, is definitely better.
The CGI on the creatures and objects is better but I finally noticed how fake some of the landscapes look in this one I still think the backgrounds in Menace look good.
However, whereas the climax in Menace is mostly pretty fun and exciting, its very underwhelming in Clones. I would be willing to sit through the first prequel film to get to the climax but I don't know if I could say the same thing about the second.
Whereas the films are about equally bad, R. Most of the problems here come from the movie it is based on and are not Salvatore's fault.
The bad dialogue and extremely choppy plot are still present. Salvatore may have upgraded a huge amount of the content from the movie, but the action scenes are still boring- even the ones that were good in the film.
The characters are written incredibly well and make up for the campy story and boring action scenes. I don't think Christensen was completely bad, but the character was still rather annoying and the conflict wasn't compelling.
The book gets into Anakin's head and makes the reader care much more about this conflicted whiner. The scene where he is slaughtering the Tuskin Village is much better and much more intense.
Padme is vastly improved in the book as well. I will admit Natalie Portman's performance in Clones is better than it was in Menace, but I was not at all convinced Padme had feelings for Anakin in Clones.
By getting inside Padme's head, Salvatore sells the love story in a convincing way. The touches he added to the scenes with Padme and Anakin were excellent and I actually saw chemistry between the Senator and the Jedi in this telling.
The parts that really make this book worth the read are the additional scenes. Not only do they add to the story but are very well written. I'm going to use the adjectives that Crystal Starr Light used to describe these scenes because she said it perfectly: The extra scene that takes up the first few chapters of the book are with Shmi Skywalker and the Lars family.
It starts out very happy and whimsical but when Shmi gets abducted it quickly goes from a decent action scene and then a very sad and harrowing aftermath.
The film's Clieg Lars glosses this over with quick exposition and makes what should be an urgent, distressing event rather boring.
With some very strong writing Salvatore shows us what happened and gives this part of the movie the weight and emotional impact it needed.
This is particularly important because Anakin starts his spiral to the dark side when his mother dies, and the way Salvatore wrote it in gives Anakin's break down after killing the Tuskens which is done much better in the book the impact it needed.
The impact of Jango Fett's death is also more significant in the book than it was in the film, again, because of extra scenes.
There is no convincing father and son bond between Jango and Boba in Lucas's movie. But again, Salvatore shows us the bond.
We see Jango caring for his son. Again, because this scene is so good you end up feeling bad for Boba when he is orphaned by Mace Windu. This scene isn't important to understanding the prequels in the way the Lars family scenes are, but you truly get to see the beginnings of Boba Fett in a way that the movie didn't even try to do.
To sum up, the book fixes every badly acted scene, introduces the chemistry between Anakin and Padme that should have been introduced in the film, and greatly increases the impact of the deaths of Jango Fett and Shmi Skywalker.
The action scenes could have been done better but all in all I will always choose to read Salvatore's novelization rather than attempt to slog through Lucas's film again.
If you watched Attack of the Clones and disliked it, definitely read this book. While it has it's problems, its overall an enjoyable read and works wonders in redeeming the film.
Whether you have seen the movie or not, this one is definitely worth giving a read. The force has been greatly strengthened in this one.
View all 7 comments. This book contains scenes that take place outside of the film. I love this part, the conversation between Anakin and Padme's father, Padme being teased by her sister, and a couple more.
We'll know for sure what else was cut in the movie. So, if you want the full story of Attack of the Clones, you have to have this book. Much like The Phantom Menace novel, this is good to read considering the film it's based on.
But the action scenes are not as good. The final fight with the Jedi and droids has nowhere near the same scope.
Even the tussle between Jango and Obi-Wan isn't as good. But that's the difference between film and books. Film can do scope and action easier.
It Much like The Phantom Menace novel, this is good to read considering the film it's based on. It takes a really talented writer to do it in written form.
This is another one of those books I had read years ago and thought lost, yet was surprised to rediscover. I liked how much more in depth this story went, than the movie of the same name did.
We get to see more character motivations and development that had gotten lost in the film. This made Anakin's turn to the Dark Side more of a natural progression than an abrupt shift that the movie showed.
All in all, it was an enriching look at a story I was already well familiar with. Attack of the Clones by R. Salvatore is the novelization of the film of the same name.
This novel has non-stop action, just like the movie. I really enjoyed all the extra scenes in it, and felt they added so much to the story.
Sep 22, Rachel rated it liked it Shelves: Obviously, this book is the companion to the movie of the same title. It fills in some valuable additional background and character development that was absent in the film.
In the movie, it is clear that Anakin remembers Padme, not just fondly, but passionately. It is never made clear even in the book what place Anakin holds in Padme's heart when they meet again - whether he is simply a boy she remembers fondl Obviously, this book is the companion to the movie of the same title.
It is never made clear even in the book what place Anakin holds in Padme's heart when they meet again - whether he is simply a boy she remembers fondly from her days as Naboo's queen, or as a possible romantic attachment.
It is probable that, given her understanding of the Jedi oaths and sacrifices, it didn't occur to her that Anakin nursed romantic feelings for her, and she likely didn't have any on the back burners for him.
We do know that she is primed and ready for a romantic relationship. It is ten years since the war on Naboo, she is no longer the Queen, but her life is still one of political service and sacrifice.
Her sister is married with children and is constantly reminding her that there is more to her and to life than political causes and self-sacrifice.
When she meets Anakin again, and he looks at her as a man looks at a woman he loves, she is ready to fall.
She puts up a good fight, but so does Anakin; ultimately, when he wins, they both lose. There is a little more background and insight into Jango and Boba Fett.
This background is interesting for the contrast that it provides to the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Jango is teaching Boba all of his skills, to turn him into the ultimate bounty hunter and his ideal son.
It is clear that Jango and Boba love each other. One of the greatest moments, for me, happens on Kamino before Obi-Wan shows up. Boba is fishing and makes a successful kill.
Though Jango praises him, he also critiques his performance, telling him that a centimeter's difference would have made for a more precise killing, and less work on his part.
The boy nodded, unperturbed that his father, his mentor, could always find fault, even in success. The boy knew that his beloved father did so only because it forced him to strive for perfection.
And in a dangerous galaxy, perfection allowed for survival. The boy loved his father even more for caring enough to criticize. This is in stark contrast to Obi-Wan and Anakin.
Obi certainly criticizes, but there isn't that feeling of love. Anakin definitely chafes under any suggestion that he isn't complete and perfect as he is.
I am truly thankful to be his learner. I think this is lip service, given because it is expected that there should be some gratitude.
Only, although I'm a Padawan learner, in some ways -in a lot of ways- I'm ahead of him. I'm ready for the trials. I know I am!
He knows it, too. He feels I'm too unpredictable -other Jedi my age have gone through the trials and made it. Compare that relationship with the one with Palpatine, who finds no fault, who justifies every action, who praises every thought, deed and success, and it becomes easier to see why Palpatine's influence is stronger than that of the Jedi.

Still in denial about certain someone? Jan 30, Joanna rated it really liked it.
Was kann schon schief gehen?
Jan 31, Benjamin Stahl rated it liked it Shelves: Three stars almost seems a little rough, since I really enjoyed this book.
I love Star Wars - even the prequel movies - and so no matter what, I was going to find to something to like in this book. Based off what I feel was easily the weakest film in the trilogy, R.
Salvatore really does a top-notch job adapting the screenplay into a fun and interesting novel. I used to be against novelisations in general, unable to take them seriously, but I have since changed my mind because some novelisatio Three stars almost seems a little rough, since I really enjoyed this book.
I used to be against novelisations in general, unable to take them seriously, but I have since changed my mind because some novelisations I grudgingly picked up these last two years have been surprisingly good.
And Attack Of The Clones is almost as good as any novelisation could get. But he is a much better writer than George Lucas is a director at least, these days , I believe, and so even the formulaic and hollow romance between Anakin and Padme feels much more real in the book.
But also to his credit, Salvatore does also expand on some of the story. The book opens about fifty pages before where the movie does, and it centres around Shmmi back on Tattooine.
The part when she is kidnapped and the farmers go after the Tuscan Raiders was very good. I especially liked the fact that Salvatore pushes the violence up a little, as well - I've always preferred the darker elements of Star Wars - such as all those farmers being decapitated by the wire in the desert.
Padme's personal life is explored a little more as well, which was nice. If there was one thing I didn't enjoy about the book, it was that Salvatore spends way too much time on the action sequences.
Two sections in particular that really didn't translate well into written form were the highly-visual speeder chase through Coruscant, and the battle between Obi Wan and Jango Fett on Kamino.
I just didn't find his excessive description of combat actions very entertaining, and felt you can only really enjoy something like that when seeing it on film.
But otherwise, this was a very fun book, which, like The Phantom Menace by Terry Brooks, offers some welcome insight into the stories explored but not fleshed out in the films.
If you're a Star Wars fan, and especially if you want to hype yourself up for the next movie, then I would definitely recommend this. It offers more than just a word-for-word recount of the movie.
May 18, Jevron McCrory rated it liked it. Lucas can't write dialogue. Yes, we get it. Hardcore fans bemoan this fact endlessly though the original beloved trilogy seems to get a free pass from the hate and nowhere is this seemingly more apparent than Episode II.
Most writers will freely admit writing a credible love story can prove difficult. Love is so intangible and undefinable that what might seem trite or crass to the observer can swell the heart of those involved.
The touch of a hand, the first time your felt your future partner's Lucas can't write dialogue. The touch of a hand, the first time your felt your future partner's breath on your face, who knows how it all begins?!
Thus the problem inherent with Episode II. By structure alone, this had to be a love story. Lucas knew that, thus thankfully the action ramped up too.
I like Episode II a great deal. It was ballsy, thrilling and breathlessly entertaining! A Salvatore blends his own style with SW as he takes us through Clones while sewing the deleted scenes into the narrative seamlessly.
Where pacing would suffer in a movie as a result, we get a far more balanced and considered study of Anakin and Padme's blossoming love affair in a novel.
The prose is so so. I can't say I fell for the writer's style but I truly appreciated how he delved into specifics for the combat scenes.
I'm a sucker for lightsaber choreography - though at times, it went overboard even for me Salvatore, lightsaber forms RARELY employ stabs.
It was also nice to get Padme's side of things for once, how she wrestled with the notion of a romantic involvement, ironically not a million miles away from how a young Natalie Portman once felt, I thought I'd add.
It's an action packed novel that may go some way to helping alleviate the hatred this particular episode has endured.
Jan 06, Nienke rated it really liked it Shelves: The Republic is failing and the Dark side is growing and all events will eventually lead to war.
Or to make it even more clear, by Anakin. Throughout the story their love blossoms, but both know it's forbidden. A Jedi isn't allowed to love.
Anakin, much more open with his feelings, doesn't care. What's fascinating about this story is that a Jedi shall not know anger nor hatred. Anakin does know these feelings.
We see him struggling with them and eventually giving in. When his mother is being held captive by the Tusken Raiders and eventually dies, he feels so much rage that he eventually kills them all.
Including women and children. These feelings stand in the way of the things that are important for a Jedi, they blur their vision.
In the movies we see, as people call it, this whiny child, but in the story we find out why. And really, it's that logical. For me, he wasn't a whiny child.
Anakin believes that if he becomes powerful, he can save the people he loves. It already starts in this novel and it will continue further more.
Rage, hatred, love, fear and anger cloud his mind and that makes it dangerous, because these feelings lead to the dark side. Sin embargo, es entretenido.
I enjoyed Salvatore's take on this story. The elements that he added and expanded upon certainly fleshed out the story and filled in gaps in logic as well as plot.
By delving more into the motivations behind the attempted assassination of Padme he made that plot point a pivotal element in the overall storyline and much more fitting in the overall machinations of the Seperatists and Darth Sidious.
Additionally, the expanded scenes between Anakin and Padme make their romantic relationship a bit mo I enjoyed Salvatore's take on this story.
Additionally, the expanded scenes between Anakin and Padme make their romantic relationship a bit more believable, and some of the reasons behind Padme's change of heart become more clear and understandable.
